Undated 4 page holograph manuscript of a footnote concerning Nathan Hale written by Irving for inclusion in volume 4, Chapter 11 of the 1858 edition of his "Life of George Washington" (p. 142). Manuscript is accompanied by a letter written by Irving to his publisher George P. Putnam, regarding some additonal minor revisions to be made to the type set volume. Letter signed with the initials "W.I." Bound with a photograph of a marble bust of Irving by sculptor Ball Hughes. Also included is an undated letter from John B. Moreau presenting the manuscript as a gift to Benjamin R. Winthrop.
